The Northeast Neighborhood Association was honored to be gifted the Historic Broad Street Mennonite Church, built in 1945, formerly known as The Gay Street Mission, by the Trustees of the church.
The organization is working to get the foundation stabilized to preserve its rich history. This building not only houses a Congolese congregation for Sunday services, but also serves as a community center for all to enjoy.
The Northeast Neighborhood Association has been successful in getting the Bethel AME Church and the Dallard Newman House Museum on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Sites, both of which are recognized for their significance to the Newtown neighborhood and African American history in Harrisonburg, VA.
